How can I improve my mile time lower?

Well i did cross country and my fastest mile time is 5:23 and my coach told me to do track and i want to get lower time in track. Plus i get nervous in track any tips

treat it like a XC meet start out strong then at the end don't forget you kick
keep up with your mileage like in XC you might run 6 miles a practice (less or more) keep doing that it will help a lot for track and next season for cross country
