What are some top hit songs you could ballroom dance to?
Any kind of dance.
Waltz
Salsa
Tango
Rumba
Swing
Etc..
Top hits from the last 50 years..
Preferably with a count of eight.
Looking for some WTF responses from the dance floor? The songs that I have flagged as "dance" in my iPod are flagged for just that reason. To be surprises. You will actually have to listen to these in order to pass judgment. Picture what ballroomers would do with them..
"the Minor Waltz" by Asylum Street Spankers has a very Adams Family ballroom feel which I love. So does a song called "Merry-Go-Round by Moonlight" by Ian Whitcomb. Great songs for people to lose themselves in the feel of it.
"Kokomo" by Beach Boys (rumba?)
"Eclipse" by Pink Floyd is a nice waltz
"Writing on the Wall" by Blackmore's Night is fast and fun in ballroom style. recommended for experts only
"Something Diabolical" by the Bloodhound Gang
"Bedbugs" by Squirrel Nut Zippers
"Nowhere Fast" by Blue Plate Special is a great feelgood song to swing to. Not too fast for everyone to enjoy
"The Rainbow Connection" is a beautiful smiling feel-good waltz to dance to. There are many variations.
"Let It Roll" by Charlie Daniels Band
"Rock and Roll Waltz" my preference is by Clelia Adams
"Sway" by the Puppini Sisters. In fact check out the sisters other songs also such as "Could it be Magic", "Heart of Glass", "I Will Survive"
"Viva Forever" by Spice Girls
"Four Left Feet" by the Ditty Bops is a great beginners waltz. A lovely song with some very cute words.
"Rockin Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu" by Johnny Rivers
DEFINITELY check out the "Mother Goose Rocks" series of CDs. Such as a Santana version of Hockey Pokey which is hilarious. Or the one for "Im a little Teapot" which is very samba.
"I Wanna Be Just Like You" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
"Puttin on the Ritz" by pretty much anyone since the Young Frankenstein movie came out
"Boogie Man" by Loggins and Messina (recommended for experts only with strong hearts)
Enya has some fantastic waltzes at different speeds and they are very "fantasy ballroom" in feel. Like a disney movie. Wild Child, Flora's Secret, Silver Inches, China Roses, Once You Had Gold
Hunt up an old song called "Music Box Dancer" by Frank Mills to bring a smile of memory to some of the older people. You might also check out his song "Peter Piper"
"Masochism Tango" isnt new but its still a nice reaction
"Life is Hard but Life is Hardest When You're Dumb" is a slow waltz. Depends on the crowd.
"Elise Steps Out" is a nice surprise. Be sure to listen past the intro. It has some nice style changes in it also.
"Little More Polka" by Bobby Rivers is a fun change of pace for the crowd but the lyrics are abit suggestable. Adults only.
Also a song called "Dead Turkey in the Straw" by Hayseed Dixie
There is a group called Eight To The Bar that did a rumba-like version of the old Jefferson Airplane song "White Rabbit"
