Anyone remember Rick Derringer!?
Do any of you know or remember Rick Derringer?
He was the singer for the 60s band the McCoys who had the hit "Hang On Sloopy", and he worked with Edgar Winter and had some hits, that he was responsible for , such as "Rock n Roll Hootchie Coo" and "Free Ride"?
Even though The McCoys work was slightly cheesey , and so was his 70s stuff, I still like him for some reason!!
I saw Rick perform with Johnny Winter And's only tour, Edgar Winter's White Trash and The Edgar Winter Group (when Ronnie Montrose was having problems with his selective service status.)
Rick is an amazing performer and songwriter. "Still Alive And Well" is another I wish he'd released as a single. It's ironic Johnny Winter recorded "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" before Rick had a hit a few years later. Rick is still out there performing, a little fireball of rock and roll energy. I can't bash the McCoys, since they were all about 16 years old at the time and under the control of their record company and producers.
"Free Ride" was written by the late Dan Hartman, bassist for The Edgar Winter Group.
